Arizona MVD DUI Screening

  • Following conviction, all offenders receive a mandatory alcohol assessment/evaluation to determine the nature and extent of their alcohol problems. Assessment costs range from $24–$100 and are paid by the offender or the state, as decided by the court. The assessment is conducted at sentencing. The court does not take the results of the assessment into consideration in final sentencing.
  • Treatment for repeat offenders and high BAC drivers is mandatory on a 3rd offense. All offenders are required to attend alcohol education or treatment as recommended by the assessment.
  • Offenders failing to comply with the terms of their program are not eligible for license reinstatement and may be returned to the court for further action.

  • Arizona MVD DUI Screening

In 2000, approximately 6,000 blood and urine samples were analyzed for alcohol as a part of routine DUI (Driving Under the Influence) screening. However, only 50 percent of the samples were also analyzed for the presence of drugs. A complete drug analysis of all blood and urine specimens submitted for DUI investigation is necessary to implement a comprehensive prevention program. In order to obtain a clear, complete profile of those arrested for DUI, the presence of common prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, and drugs of abuse/controlled substances must be identified. If given a DUI it is sometimes necessary to have an ignition interlock system that makes the car available to the driver. When an interlock system is installed the user must blow into the device everytime before starting the vehicle. A restricted licensing screening can be given to lessen the time of a suspended license and let the person drive to and from work.

    ALCOHOL SCREENING tempe

Some people have an alcohol or drug problem and a mental health problem. Doctors call this a dual diagnosis. You need to treat both problems to fully recover. Mental health problems that can happen with alcohol or drug abuse include depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and schizophrenia.

Either problem may come first. If you have a mental health problem, you may use alcohol or drugs to try to feel better. Or a substance abuse problem may lead to mental health symptoms such as depression, anxiety, or rage.

People with mental health problems may use drugs and alcohol:

    * To feel normal. You may use drugs or alcohol because it helps you feel normal and accepted. It may make you feel like you don’t have a mental health problem or are not different from others.
    * To self-medicate. You may use drugs or alcohol to reduce anxiety, depression, sleep problems, tension, hallucinations (like hearing voices), and the side effects of medicines.

Using drugs or alcohol when you have a mental health problem harms your health and your relationships. You may have more mental health symptoms, think about suicide, or need to stay in a hospital or other facility.
