Courtney Penniman made a gender transition to male in February 2012.  His FTM transition was supported by friends in the Phoenix LGBTQ Community and transgendered friends. It is estimated that at least 1% of the population is transsexual. It is clear that there are people who are aware that they are transgender from their earliest memories. Many trans people feel that their gender identity is an innate part of them, an integral part of who they were born to be.
